Helping kids deal with abuse
Jun. 23rd, 2008 12:55 pmThis "disturbing kids book" was posted on Slightly Warped. Included at the top was the website author's opinion:
"Incredibly ignorant and the fact that it was written for kids makes it, in my opinion, completely evil."
Why is this ignorant? Obviously (to me at least what with me being a psychology/counseling student), this book was meant for children as a counseling tool. I am betting this wasn't a book readily available in a major bookstore. Everything this book touches on happens in real life. The way it was written, it sounds like it was meant for teens with gay confusion, which happens all the time. Not all gay men are gay because of the circumstances in this book. But it is a very relevant topic and should not be dissed the way the website claims. I am betting this book really helps some teens come to terms with neglect, abuse and sexual confusion. Perhaps the website should have included context instead of making blanket "evil" statements, eh?
