Both OPB and the Oregon Symphony are hiring for adminstrative/development assistants in their development/gift planning departments. I would be SO into working for either organization. :) I applied to both and feel my cover letters rocked this time around I'll include it under the cut.

Dear Hiring Manager,
I learned about the position of Administrative Assistant for the Gift Planning and Member Programs department on August 12th, 2007. I was thrilled to see this position open up. OPB is such a valuable part of the Oregon lifestyle. I would be honored to be included in such an honored institution. Also, working in the Development department of a worthy non-profit is one of my career goals. I have been volunteering in the non-profit sector for the past 9 years. My career goals, plus having worked in offices over the past 15 years, would make me an excellent addition to the Gift Planning Department of OPB.
First, let me outline my office experience. I am thoroughly familiar with all PC and Mac office software and applications. I have received certification in Microsoft Word, and have worked extensively with Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and Outlook. I have experience working with such database applications such as Oracle and Groupwise. I have over 10 years cumulative experience in customer service situations, ranging from being a customer service representative to a security guard, PR representative to receptionist. Also, I spent 3 years in data entry for the US Postal Service, so my keyboarding speed and expertise will also aid me in being an excellent Administrative Assistant for your organization.
Another reason why I would be a perfect fit for the Gift Planning department is my expertise in organization, meeting deadlines, handling logistics, and interpreting instructions with extreme attention to detail. In my spare time, I coordinate events. Organizing a day festival is a huge commitment and logistical maze. It takes focus, determination and drive to pull it off successfully. It also takes teamwork. I've been organizing festivals for 8 years, being both part of a team and leading teams. Difficulties can arise, but having a sense of humor helps to make everyone's experience pleasant as you work towards the organization's goals. I would love to put my experiences and expertise to work for the Oregon Public Broadcasting Company.
I am available for interviewing and for hire immediately. Please call me at your earliest convenience. I will be contacting the HR department one week after the closing date to see how things are going. Thank you for considering me for the position.
Sincerely,
Christina LW Taft
